About British Marine - a family business

British Marine is a Perkins Master Dealer and a Perkins Sabre Master Dealer located in Oakland, California.  Featuring a 30 ton marine ways and full complement of services for sailboats and motorboats, British Marine is noted for the personal service that they provide customers.

Bryan Lowe, owner of British Marine, has been in the business for over 40 years.  Bryans' father was a master boat builder in England, and Bryan began working as an apprentice marine engineer at Fawley Shipyard when he was 16.  After getting his papers, and working for an additional 7 years at Fawley, Bryan and his wife Ginny cruised the Caribbean for 3 years.

Bryan and Ginny moved to California in 1983, and Bryan worked as service manager for a large boat broker for three years.  Bryan became well known as an expert troubleshooter, and the Perkins area representative pursued him until he agreed to represent them.  Soon thereafter British Marine was born in a tiny shop in Oakland, in 1986.  At that time British Marine was strictly a engine repair shop.

A year later a boatyard became available and British Marine expanded its services to include haul outs, boat maintenance and dockside service.  For the last 13 years British Marine has been the delight and hidden secret of boat owners 'in the know'.

Customers know British Marine for fair prices, excellent work, scrupulous honesty, and careful workmanship.  Quality takes time, and British Marine doesn't compromise with hasty work. 

The business has steadily grown over the years, and selling Perkins parts is a mainstay of the business.  British Marine ships worldwide, often to out-of the way locations where there is no local Perkins representation.
